Six art organisations to benefit from Scottish Arts Council capital cash

In addition to Scottish Ballet and Peacock Visual Arts, four other arts organisations have been granted awards by the Scottish Arts Council to cover the development costs of their capital projects. Stevenson College, Edinburgh, Shetlands Arts Trust, Greenock Arts Guild and Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop have been awarded up to £100,000 although there is ultimately a combined pot of around £16.75 million up for grabs. As the budget for Capital funding has been cut, accumulated funds of 3 years have been brought together for one single funding round. Iain Munro, Head of Capital at the SAC sees this next round of awards as having compensations. “We’ve got a lot of information to share now, going back to 1995. It’s in our best interest to see projects secure Phase II funding in two years time.”
The state of play with the lucky winners of the SAC funding round are as follows:

Shetland Arts Trust, Lerwick
This £6.9 million project for a cinema complex has been in development for 10 years, a third feasibility study in 2001 incorporated work from both BDP and Dignan Read Dewar.

Greenock Arts Guild
Has not secured matched funding for their goal of £2.5 million plans, but won £58,500 to carry out a feasibility study.

Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop
A proposed development in Newhaven by Sutherland Hussey architects.

Stevenson College, Edinburgh
Part of the regeneration of Sighthill site includes a new music and performance venue.
