Scottish Ballet’s Tramway plans

The architects for the conversion of the Luma building on the edge of the M8 have been charged with finding a new home for Scottish Ballet. According to Duncan Scott of Cornelius McClymont, the practice “are the architects who were involved with Phase I of the project and are currently about to start on the application of Phase II.”
The initial proposals to give Scottish Ballet access to Tramway 2 caused great upset amongst the visual art community in Glasgow who had spent several years establishing the space on the international contemporary art circuit. “The project has developed significantly since last year’s proposals and we have plans now to enhance Tramway’s role without compromising the existing art spaces,” said a Scottish Ballet spokesperson.
The SAC has awarded £75,000 towards the project’s development costs. Although the project qualifies for OJEU, there are some concerns within Scottish Ballet about the point in the design process at which the board is going to apply the EU competition rules.
