Govanhill Pool could re open with Nord as architect
Glasgow’s Govanhill Pool, which was shut in 2001, could be set to re-open after campaigners to restore the building were awarded charitable status. They have formed the Govanhill Baths Community Trust and aim to raise enough money to re-open the 112-year-old building on Calder Street.

12,000 people petitioned to keep the pool open, and protesters even staged a sit-in protest for 140 days, but Glasgow City Council did not believe it was worth the £500,000 required to keep the B-listed building in operation. However, the new trust is to apply for National Lottery grants and Scottish Executive funding to restore the building.

Nord Architects revealed ideas for the revamped building at a public meeting on 25 January. Proposals include the re-opening of the largest pool for swimming, the creation of a hydrotherapy area and steam room from the smaller pool areas and a roof garden. The trust also wants to use the complex for youth activities.
