Football stand's listed status angers campaigners
8 Dec 2006
Historic Scotland has outraged campaigners by its decision to award a Galashiels football stand listed building status.
The decision comes after an unsuccessful campaign to halt the demolition of a historically significant building in the town to make room for a new supermarket.
Historic Scotland described the Gala Fairydean FC stand as "unique" but critics have said it resembles "something from the former Soviet Union in the 1960s."
