Flatpack houses to be introduced as part of £200million Drumchapel regeneration

In a partnership between Glasgow City Council and New City Vision, Swedish flatpack houses are to be introduced to Scotland for the first time as part of a £200 million project to regenerate housing in the Drumchapel area of Glasgow.

Around 40 of the properties will be Ikea prefabricated homes adapted for the Scottish climate, in what is claimed to be the largest project of its type since the regeneration of the Gorbals in the early 1990s.

The development will create a minimum of 120 jobs for the local area, with a £1 million community endowment fund being set up to support local initiatives and keep locals in work after the development is completed.

Councillor Paul Carey said: “Glasgow is a city in the midst of an economic and social renaissance and I’m delighted that the people of Drumchapel can share in our massive success.”
