£1.1 million in lottery funds awarded to Scottish churches

Nine churches across Scotland have been awarded £1.1 million in lottery funds for repairs and restoration work.

The largest payout of over £650,000 will go to Cromarty Church on the Black Isle, which featured on last year’s BBC Restoration Village programme, and could see the historic building used as a venue for concerts and special events as well as weddings and occasional worship.

Colin McLean, Heritage Lottery Fund Manager for Scotland, said “it will be magical to see such an historic church once again take its rightful place as a hub for community life.”

Other churches awarded funding included St Columba’s in Glenrothes, St John’s in Renfield and St Magnus in Lerwick.
