Rosslyn Chapel in Midlothian has been awarded just over £7 million in restoration grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Scotland.

The money will go towards a five-year restoration programme, as well as a new reception area, exhibition space and café.

Managing trustee, Andrew Russell, said: “When our plans to conserve the fabric of the building and improve our visitor facilities are complete, we expect to have invested over £13 million and to be providing a greatly enhanced visitor experience to a much broader audience.”

Visitor numbers have risen dramatically in recent years following the chapel’s appearances in Dan Brown’s novel The Da Vinci Code, and the 2006 movie adaptation.
