Dollar Academy redevelopment shortlist announced
23 May 2007
Nord, Gareth Hoskins and Reiach & Hall have been included on a shortlist of Scottish architectural firms contending for the opportunity to redevelop the prestigious Dollar Academy.
The A-listed building, designed by William Playfair, dates back to 1818 and requires extensive modernisation - a project being overseen by ex-pupil and school governor John McAslan.
The shortlisted firms - also including Malcolm Fraser, Richard Murphy, Wellwood Leslie and Page & Park - have been asked to draw up a ten-year masterplanning strategy to provide, what Mr McAslan describes as, a “strategic framework” for the project, and will work with other building specialists such as engineers and landscape architects.
School bursar, Justin Wilkes, said: “We are very conscious that we have a very significant piece of real estate in a splendid setting…But we are not afraid of an interesting and modern approach, as long as it’s done respectfully.”
The final decision on the appointment is expected in June.
