Riverside Museum opening delayed as costs soar

The opening of the Riverside Museum in Glasgow has been delayed by at least 18 months, with the building now scheduled for completion in late 2010.
The delays have been attributed to infrastructure and design issues along with rising building costs, which has seen the project budget increase by £17million to £74 million.
Designed by award-winning architect Zaha Hadid, the museum is to be built in the shape of a wave at a riverside site donated by Glasgow Harbour, where the Clyde and Kelvin rivers meet.
The Glasgow City Council funded project is to become the new home of the Museum of Transport, with HBG Construction due to begin work on site in November this year.
