The Prospect Housing Debate forms the climax of a one day international conference on housing organised by do.co.mo.mo. Trash or Treasure? will look at modernist mass housing in and internationally.

At a time when modernism is in vogue, and iconic works of the 1960s are often revered, mass social housing, arguably the linchpin of the post-war Modern Movement, still remains stubbornly stuck in the rubbish bin of history. Can this situation be changed? DOCOMOMO's international symposium will provide an overview of the controversial legacy of state-built post-war mass housing, in countries ranging from the USSR and apartheid South Africa to late-colonial Hong Kong and welfare-state UK.

It will also assess whether, with the passage of time there might be a rediscovery of the merits of some of these much maligned projects. For the full programme and tickets contact the Saltire Society 0131-556 1836 between 10 am and 4 pm.
