Page\Park has been awarded the contract to redevelop the A-listed Dollar Academy, beating several of Scotland's leading practices.
The Glasgow-based practice saw off competition from Reiach & Hall, Gareth Hoskins, Malcolm Fraser, Wellwood Leslie, Richard Murphy and Nord to win the contract, with the masterplan due for completion towards the end of September.
The brief was to draw up a ten-year masterplanning strategy to modernise the William Playfair-designed building whilst respecting its established architectural identity.
To date Page\Park's work has involved analysis of both the historic buildings and the landscape. Over the next two months they will be developing a master plan for the site. When Dollar Academy was first established the teaching of botany was a core element in the curriculum and as a consequence the school trained many children that went on to play a role in the establishment of botanic gardens. Page\Park were very keen to restore and develop the original landscape and Ian White Associates, the landscape architect will be working on the scheme.
