Nick Barley, editor of listings magazine The List, has been announced today as the new director of The Lighthouse, Scotland¹s National Architecture and Design Centre. Barley will take on the new role from January next year. In the meantime, acting director Julia Fenby will continue at the helm of the Centre.

The lighthouse has undertaken an extensive search for a new director following the departure of Stuart McDonald in May this year to take on the position of head of Gray¹s School of Art in Aberdeen. The Lighthouse hoped, at the time, to make an appointment by the summer.

Speaking at the time of McDonald¹s departure, Janice Kirkpatrick, chair of The Lighthouse Trust said: "Stuart, his team and the Board of the Lighthouse took the legacy of Glasgow's Year as City of Architecture and Design in 1999 and built on it. Stuart consolidated Scotland¹s position as a key international player in architecture and design, and a source of creative people and businesses."
