Seaside towns set for £90million transformation

Plans have been drawn up to breathe new life into the former seaside favourites, Rothesay, Helensburgh, Oban, Dunoon and Campbeltown.

Pier developments, marinas, public walkways and improved traffic management are all part of the proposals put before Argyll and Bute Council, reportedly worth as much as £90million.

£2million is to be spent in Campbeltown improving the town centre and waterfront; a £9million development for the ferry and railway terminals in Oban with Dunoon set to receive £6.5million for the development of a marina, pier redevelopment, waterfront upgrade and the refurbishment of Queen’s Hall.

Family favourite Rothesay will receive £4.5million to redevelop areas of the town centre and to rehabilitate key disused buildings and Helensburgh will receive the largest chunk, £40million, to integrate the town centre with the waterfront, and develop new business space, improve traffic management and the waterfront area.
