Top ten most treasured places revealed

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Rosslyn Chapel and Cumbernauld Town Centre are going head to head in a vote for Scotland’s most treasured places, despite Cumbernauld’s recent reputation as a Carbuncle award winner.

Members of the public were asked to nominate and submit images for their most treasured places, monuments and landmarks, as part of the centenary celebrations of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland next year.

The top ten was announced this week, and also includes the Glasgow School of Art; St Meadow’s Church in Troon; the Standing Stones of Stenness; the Falkirk Wheel; King’s College in Aberdeen; Lady Victoria Colliery in Newtongrange and Skara Brae in Orkney.

An exhibition of images from the top ten will be held at Edinburgh’s City Art Centre next year and is also due to tour the country. The final vote is to close on 10th December, with the winner announced on the 11th.
