Glasgow City Council has approved plans lodged by Progress Property Developments for a new six star hotel, designed by Ian Simpson Architects.

The hotel, which will sit beside the Radisson hotel on Argyle Street, will contain 158 rooms and suites, a 630 people banqueting facility and extensive conference and meeting facilities as well as a pool, health spa, gym and a skybar.

The decision was delayed for a week due to the number of applications submitted to the planning committee recently and within the context of a recent debate about Glasgow’s tall building policy.

The council refused planning permission for a 20-storey hotel on the same site two weeks ago which was designed by Young and Gault.
