Midlothian council approves plans for veterinary school

Midlothian District Council has approved plans for the University of Edinburgh's new state of the art £25 million veterinary school designed by BDG McColl.
The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies will be situated on the Easter Bush campus and the building will provide 11,500sq m of floor space, accommodation for 1,200 staff and students and will be clad in stone, render, glass and capped with sedum roofs.
The building also includes lecture theatres, seminar rooms, teaching laboratories, a library and offices for academics and support staff, and encompasses energy saving designs including rainwater harvesting, soil stabilisation and sustainable urban drainage systems.
Darren Cartlidge, projects director at BDG McColl, said: "This has been a challenging brief to bring such a diverse range of accommodation together under one roof, and we are delighted with the positive comments that we have received from both the planners and Architecture Design Scotland in winning this permission."
