Developers Premier Burrell, has begun work on the the £10m refurbishment of a collection of rundown Victorian Glasgow warehouses and the provision of a ten-storey new build mix
development which sits between the city’s Mitchell and Union Street. The project was named, the Vienna Apartments, by the architects, gm+ad, because of its close proximity to Mackintosh's newspaper building - now The Lighthouse, and his association with the Viennese School. The apartmetns will be built in two phases.
The phase which is now on site, comprises 76 units in a mix of one, two and three bedroom; loft or new-build apartments with penthouses. A mix of commercial and leisure units will be located on the ground floor on Mitchell Street.
Andrew Burrell, managing director of The Burrell Company, said: “This is a very exciting project and we’re delighted to be able to bring this beautiful building back to life. Gordon Murray and Alan Dunlop Architects was a natural choice for us, not least as a result of their strong connections with, and love of Glasgow, but also their architectural pedigree will bring some special touches to this project.”
