Henderson Global launches consultation programme for St James proposals
30 Jan 2008
Members of the public will be able to have their say about the proposals for the centre over the eight-week programme through an exhibition of the plans in the shopping centre itself, with staff on hand to answer questions.
Organisers will also gather 2,000 completed questionnaires, before an outline planning application and illustrative master plan is put before the City of Edinburgh Council in April.
The proposals up for consideration would include hotels, cafes, restaurants, new houses and a series of continental-style public spaces, as well as improvements around St. Mary’s Cathedral, distinctive new buildings and a crescent-shaped multi-level galleria.
Alan Murray said: This plan will transform the St James Centre area into a new urban quarter with high quality buildings and public spaces, allowing it to fulfil its proper role as the commercial heart of Edinburgh’s historic city centre.”
The plans will be on show at the St James Centre on the main shopping level until March 17, or can be viewed here.
