The Architectural Policy Unit is to move from the ministerial department for Europe, External Affairs and Culture to the directorate for Building and Planning, following the First Minister’s statement on public bodies last month.

As reported last week on architecturescotland, the Scottish Government is amalgamating or abolishing a number of public bodies and restructuring certain areas of government.

The APU is responsible for the policy on architecture within the Government and briefing ministers on architectural matters, a function that will be unaffected by the move.

It is understood that the move will make it easier for those outside of government to understand the nature of the Unit’s function, as well as providing a more naturally grouped, one-stop architectural and planning department.
