"Citybuilding" Experiment may be exported to Ireland.

Citybuilding, the company formed by Glasgow City Council which undertakes the bulk of the Council's former contract and construction work, has been in consultation with representatives from one Irish city -as well as councils in England- to discuss how the model could be adapted to their city models.

The company, which was formed by Glasgow City Council as a wholly owned subsidiary, employs the majority of the former council contractors on a private basis, and offers construction and labour services to the council as well as the private sector.   

Chief Executive Willie Docherty told Prospect that the benefits of the system, which he says include below market costs and profit re-investment, are being looked at as a model which could possibly be exported in other cities across the UK.

He met with representatives from one unnamed Irish city in Glasgow today (Monday), although confirmation of the adoption of the process is not expected to be announced for some time.
