Solar Pads Set for the Clyde

Following recent speculation, it has now been reported that solar lily pads are likely to become a fixture on Glasgow’s River Clyde.

The proposal has come from Peter Richardson of ZM Architecture, whose proposal to use the pads as floating solar pads to power the electricla grid has taken first place in the International Design Awards, (IDA), ‘Land and Sea’ competition. The lilypads are tethered to the river bed and their design means they can be moved and dismantled easily.  

ZM Architecture’s clained aim was to reduce the so called "carbon footprint" of the city. The proposal is alos part of an integrated plan to revitalize the urban waterfront and stimulate river activity.

Glasgow City Council are understood to be planning a pilot project in conjunction with the Glasgow Science Centre.
