Clear road ahead for A80 upgrade

Highways Management (Scotland) Ltd have been named as the preferred bidder for the upgrade of an 11 mile stretch of the A80 between Stepps and Haggs.

The project will see 8km of dual 2 lane motorway constructed between Mollinsburn and Auchenkilns and the addition of hard shoulders and climbing lanes along a 7.3km stretch between Auchenkilns and Haggs.

It is expected that the award of the contract can be concluded over the coming weeks to allow construction to commence this summer for completion in 2011.
