Practice Statement

As one of the world’s leading providers of professional technologically-based consultancy and support services, Atkins has a turnover of £1.6bn and more than 17,000 professional staff. The Architects Journal’s most recent AJ100 survey of the top 100 UK practices, listed Atkins in second position due to our impressive £53m earnings and 286 architectural staff.

Atkins has a strong architectural presence in Scotland with a broad range of sector experience. As an architectural practice, Atkins recognises that leadership of the design team and management of all aspects of a project are critical to its success. We treat design, management, commercial and technical inputs to a project as parts of a holistic process, and within the team, we provide an appropriate balance between the design and technical elements required. Our design driver is excellence. We specialise in providing simple, elegant solutions to complex problems, to the delight of our clients.

Concern for the environment and a growing awareness of sustainability are at the heart of what we do. We encourage boundary-less behaviours, and as a multidisciplinary team, Atkins are uniquely placed to ensure the design decision making process is non-partisan, with the most appropriate, best whole value solutions put to the client.

We are involved with design innovation, research and knowledge exchange in many areas of design and technology to ensure we remain at the forefront of best practice. For example, key staff have been members of groups/panels such as the Decontamination Technical Advisory Panel, sanctioned by the Scottish Executive, and the Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) working Group instigated by NHS Scotland Property and Environment Forum (now Health Facilities Scotland).

Recent Projects

Our recent projects include the design of a number of commissions which we feel demonstrate Atkins ability in providing innovative design solutions. Our projects vary significantly in value and scale and encompass a broad sector range, particularly Education, Healthcare and Transportation, examples of which are exhibited our portfolio opposite.
